10 Weeks Until Christmas
I know this may seem early considering that it’s only mid October, but you need to get Christmas decor before it hits December or even Thanksgiving! It takes time to figure out what you actually want since there are so many options out there. Plus, you have to factor in shipping times and the very real chance that the things you’ve been eyeing might sell out.
Every year, I brainstorm what I would like my Christmas theme to be. Last year I went for a Ralph Lauren inspired look. Then I realized.. it wasn’t necessarily the design itself that I loved (though I absolutely do), but the way it made me feel. Cozy, layered, classic, fun!
I’m going to say it… I think Christmas shopping lost a little bit of its magic once everything went online. I totally get the convenience of it, and I’m guilty of scrolling and adding to cart just like everyone else (umm hello, I’m literally doing that right now in this blog). But nothing beats walking through the mall, hearing holiday music, seeing the lights, the decorated store windows, and people happily searching for the perfect gift for someone they love. It just feels different.
That’s why, for my theme this year I’m going for what I’m calling a true nostalgic Christmas. Think Santa Claus / snowmen bubble ornaments, colored Christmas lights, blow ups, porcelain villages with fake snow around it, a train that circles around the Christmas tree, & snowflakes hung on the windows.
When I was younger, one of my favorite memories was setting up the Christmas village with my mom on our fireplace. Once everything was plugged in, the tiny houses would glow, the music would start, and all the little people would dance. It brought me the biggest sense of joy. Unfortunately, a few years ago my mom decided to do some spring cleaning and got rid of everything. I was so sad when I found out, so this year I’m starting my own collection. I want to rebuild it piece by piece and keep it for years to come.
Christmas decor can add up quickly. My rule of thumb, similar to Halloween decor, is to set a budget and stick to it. I try to only get quality pieces that feel special and collectable for that year. You don’t need to buy everything at once. It’s actually more fun to build your collection slowly so that each piece has a little story behind it.
So that’s my plan for this holiday season. A true nostalgic Christmas. It’s going to take some effort to pull it off, but I’m so excited to try. Fingers crossed it turns out as magical as I’m picturing it in my head.
Here are some options I’m eyeing to achieve my look:
